Laser amplifier with a many-sided active element
Abstract
A laser amplifier has been constructed in the form of a many-sided glass element. The external diameter of the amplifier is 100 mm; the effective path (from input to output) is 2.467 m; the input and output planes have dimensions of 10 x 10.5 sq mm. The amplifier was tested in experiments using two lasers - YAG and neodymium:glass - to provide input signals. Tests were conducted for three cases of transverse dimensions of the input signal: (1) an input ray with zero divergence fully occupying the input face of the amplifer, (2) an input ray with a given divergence, diaphragmed in such a way that its transverse dimensions at the output of the amplifier are not greater than those of the input, and (3) the input ray is collimated and diaphragmed. Attention was given to the dependence of the gain coefficient of the amplifier on the magnitude of the input signal.
