High-power electron-beam-controlled CO2 laser system for laser fusion research
Abstract
A high-power CO2 laser system of output energy 200 J in a nanosecond single pulse was constructed. Many problems were investigated which concerned the high-power generation: short pulse generation, multiline double-band oscillation, suitable conditions for efficient pumping, system of high energy extraction, and isolation between amplifiers to suppress parasitic oscillation. Threshold laser power for optical damage in laser elements was measured to establish the reliability of the laser system.
