Design and construction of a high-temperature photogoniometer
Abstract
Design details and operation of a photogoniometer built to measure intensity and angular dependences of light scattering in polymer solutions and polymeric melts are described. Accuracy and reproducibility over a range from 15 C to 200 + or - 0.01 C are achieved for measurements of light scattered by polymer specimens. The design and operation of mechanical and optical components and systems are described in detail, particularly performance at high temperatures, and the electrical system is outlined. Selection of the immersion bath is discussed. The device is recommended for measurements of light scattering at high temperatures in high-molecular-weight materials.
