CW lasers for optical fiber communications
Abstract
The paper describes the fabrication and operation characteristics of SiO2 insulated stripe geometry double heterostructure GaAs/(GaAl)As lasers which were designed specifically for coupling to optical fibers of 10-20 micron core diameter and are particularly suitable for PCM modulation at bit rates higher than 100 Mbit/s. Attention is given to laser structure, output characteristics, lasing spectra, modulation, and laser reliability.
