Operational experience with the ANS on-board computer.
Abstract
Since August 30, 1974, the ANS on-board computer has been continuously executing attitude control and data handling tasks. Opportunities of coping with unpredicted problems by means of on-board software modification, by adding completely new functions, as well as extending the data collection function for various purposes, are all being exploited. At the same time system integrity is being maintained to allow a regular ground contact every twelve hours for loading a new observation program and dumping the stored data. The controlled use of an on-board computer and ground software in this way is providing new challenges and opportunities to spacecraft operations.
