Determination of the distance to the turbulent cone during the interaction of laminar axisymmetric free jets
Abstract
The paper reports on an experiment in determining the distance to the turbulent cone arising in a laminar feed jet when it interacts with a laminar control jet. Using experimental data, the authors have determined constant coefficients for a relation expressing the distance from the end of a capillary to the transition section in a laminar jet under free turbulization. A normalized curve was obtained expressing the dimensionless distance from the end of the capillary to the transition section as function of the dimensionless momentum, that is, the ratio of the momentum of the control jet to the momentum of the feed jet.
