Spectral fluxes of scattered solar radiation in the atmosphere of Venus
Abstract
The illuminance curves for the Venus atmosphere and surface are calculated in the range of wavelengths from 0.4 to 1.0 micron on the basis of sunlight measurements on board Venera 8. Use is made of asymptotic formulas of radiation transfer theory. The Venus atmosphere is assumed to consist of a 35-km thick molecular layer and an upper cloud layer. The illuminance curves are plotted for clouds containing 0.5 and 1.2 micron particles and for albedo values of the underlying surface of 0 and 0.5. A strong influence of particle size at wavelengths greater than 0.6 micron is demonstrated.
