Preliminary results of linear/circular depolarisation on a 18km, 11.6 GHz radio link
Abstract
An experiment to compare linear and circular depolarisation simultaneously on an 11.6 GHz, 18 km radio link is described. Preliminary results of both rainfall and multipath depolarisation are presented. It is concluded that, in rainfall events, circular depolarisation is worse than linear, although this is not true in all cases of multipath. Experimental results are compared with a new stochastic canting-angle model, and good agreement is obtained, especially for circular polarisation, for which the new model yields a substantial improvement.
