The Magnetic Field of Disintegrating Sunspots
Abstract
Eighty-one sunspots, which evidently disappeared from the visible disk between 1963 and 1970 and which had reached J type of the Zurich classification in their development, are studied. It is found that the intensity of their magnetic field several days prior to disappearance suddenly increased up to the secondary maximum and disappeared only after this increase. Two characteristic shapes of the secondary maximum were observed.
