Stimulated Compton scattering and quasar luminosity.
Abstract
A previous quasar model based on plasma-oscillation emission and scattering in a plasma nebula excited by stellar explosions or collisions is corrected for the effect of stimulated Compton scattering. A steep superradiance photon number density distribution, proportional to the inverse cube of frequency, is produced before normal Compton scattering takes over. The observed luminosity in the infrared and optical regions is produced by weak plasma turbulence, in conjunction with Compton scattering. The X-ray spectrum is produced by Compton-scattered bremsstrahlung and extends up to several times mc-squared. The X-ray luminosity is comparable to the soft-photon luminosity, as observed.
