Fourier analysis of steady-state reaction schemes for interstellar molecules.
Abstract
A Fourier-analysis technique is applied to a steady-state reaction scheme meant to describe the formation of molecules in the interstellar medium. The method assesses the sensitivity of the calculated concentrations to uncertainties in the rate coefficients used. It proves possible to identify reactions which are important for a particular species even if that species is not directly involved in the reaction. The method is also useful in eliminating unimportant reactions from a complicated scheme.
