Energy Lc-spectrum of the source responsible for the T Tauri nebula emission.
Abstract
Observations of the outer region of the small emission nebula associated with T Tauri are used to compute the Lyman energy spectrum and flux responsible for the nebular emission. Assuming radiative ionization of the nebular gas, the radiative flux at the Lyman edge is estimated to be about 6 by 10 to the -29th power W/sq m per Hz, and the spectral index beyond the Lyman limit is determined as -3.8. These values are shown to explain well the ionization of oxygen and the energy balance in the nebula. The energy flux responsible for heating the nebular gas is estimated to be 5 by 10 to the -12th power erg, the optical thickness of the nebula to Lyman radiation is found to be about 70, and a value of approximately 10 is obtained for the ratio of ionized to neutral hydrogen in the nebula.
