The general photospheric velocity field.
Abstract
The radial and tangential components of the general photospheric velocity field obtained by a variety of authors are compared. Fairly good correlation between results obtained by different methods from different observational material was found. A sharp growth of both components with increasing depth was found in the layers of the photosphere in which the absorption lines used in the investigation are formed. Expressions governing the change of the radial and tangential components with depth are derived on the basis of the results of averaging the weighted data reported by the different authors considered.
