An integral constraint for the evolution of the galaxy two-point correlation function.
Abstract
Under some conditions an integral over the galaxy two-point correlation function evolves with the expansion of the Universe in a simple manner easily computed from linear perturbation theory. This provides a useful constraint on the possible evolution of the two-point correlation function itself. The integral constraint is tested with both an analytic model and numerical N-body simulations for the evolution of irregularities in an expanding Universe. Some applications are discussed.
