An integral constraint for the evolution of the galaxy twopoint correlation function.
Abstract
Under some conditions an integral over the galaxy twopoint correlation function evolves with the expansion of the Universe in a simple manner easily computed from linear perturbation theory. This provides a useful constraint on the possible evolution of the twopoint correlation function itself. The integral constraint is tested with both an analytic model and numerical Nbody simulations for the evolution of irregularities in an expanding Universe. Some applications are discussed.
