A detailed photometric and spectroscopic study of the short-period classical cepheid SU Cas.
Abstract
Summary. Light curves in U, B and V and a simultaneously obtained radial velocity curve of the short- period classical cepheid SU Cas are presented and discussed. The measurements give strong evidence that SU Cas is pulsating in the first harmonic mode. This conclusion is based mainly on the comparison between the observed position of the star in the instability strip of the HRD and theoretical blue edges, the comparison between the observed physical parameters and the results of nonlinear pulsation calculations for classical cepheids, and on the pulsation mass determined from a carefully derived Wesselink radius. Consequences for the period-luminosity-colour relation are briefly discussed. Key words: variable stars (5 Cephei stars photo- electric photometry radial velocities pulsation mode
