Computer aided design for dual-mode CFA crossed-field amplifiers

This is the final report in a year-long computer aided study of dual mode, crossed-field amplifiers (CFA). Dual-mode operation of injected beam CFA's (IBCFA) is discussed and two paper designs presented. A complete description is included of the mathematical analysis and computer program developed to study both the interaction region and gun region of the IBCFA. The results of an analysis of grid structures are presented including conventional, shadow and dual mode grid structures. Finally, general conclusions and recommendations are discussed.
