Making the best use of the Geos-S 300 experiment
Abstract
The paper discusses the concept of a satellite experiment as an integrated system, which consists not only of the hardware put into orbit, but also the data handling facilities on the ground, and the organizational structure, with particular reference to the S 300 experiment on Geos. Emphasis is placed on the ways in which increasing complexity, both in the technical and scientific fields, has increased the number of interactions between different parts of this integrated system. Experiment control strategies are discussed, along with data selection procedures and organizational aspects.
