Thermal power plants
Abstract
Basic concepts and relations concerning thermal power plants are examined, taking into account the Carnot cycle, principles of heat transfer, operational processes in thermal engines, questions regarding the transferability of test results, and material problems in thermal power plants. Thermal cycles in steam-engine and gas-turbine processes are discussed along with the design, operation, and control of conventional installations for the generation of steam. Nuclear reactors are considered and a description is provided of thermal turbomachines. Attention is also given to development problems, trends, and information useful for the planning and the economical employment of power plants.
