An assessment of SAW device performance in relation to potential systems applications
Abstract
The performance and limitations of Surface Acoustic Wave (SAW) devices applicable to important electronic signal processing functions are reviewed including emerging devices, such as the oscillator and the inverse filter. Applications are highlighted and specific examples given in the systems areas of radar, spread spectrum communications, terrestrial and satellite microwave communications, and air traffic control. Distinction is drawn between those applications which have reached the advanced development or product engineering status, and those applications which are in the conjectural or exploratory phase.
