A study of the mechanisms of flow in a gas ejector
Abstract
An investigation has been performed of the mechanisms of flow in a gas ejector by examining the discharge of a jet into a gas of different density. The investigation has been partly theoretical and partly experimental. Attention was focused on a jet mixing with a stationary volume of gas of different density, the latter having increased the complexity of the analysis due to the more rapid diffusion of material than of momentum in the mixing process. An examination was made of the behavior of jets of different gases (CO2, N2, CH4, and H2) discharging into air. Measurements were made in each case to determine the rate of spread and the axial decay of dynamic pressure and from the results it has been possible to assess the effects of the density ratio of the two mixing fluids.
