Parametric study of the open-circuit gain in CO2-N2-He mixtures
Abstract
A model is presented for calculating the open-circuit gain of a CO2-N2-He mixture at elevated pressure, excited by a discharge. Parallel to this theoretical model, a laser amplifier with a discharge maintained by an electron beam has been developed. A comparison of results obtained with this amplifier and those predicted by the model for various mixture ratios and excitation conditions shows satisfactory agreement, especially before 50 microsec after excitation. Discrepancies between theory and experiment after this time are probably due to vibration-vibration and vibration-translation exchanges.
