Experimental RF field polarization meter
Abstract
An experimental antenna-receiving system was designed to measure the ratio of vertically to horizontally polarized electromagnetic fields transmitted by VOR/ILS facilities. This field ratio is particularly important because course bearing errors can be caused by modulation carried by some components of the vertically polarized field from VOR facilities. A description is given of the development and testing of a field polarization meter, called a Polariscope by the FAA, to be used for measuring this field ratio.
