Diffusion of optical pulses in a lightguide
Abstract
The time lag and diffusion of optical pulse fronts transmitted in circular cylindrical multimode lightguides is analyzed, neglecting the lightguide losses. For immersion-type light input systems, (i.e., when a direct optical contact exists between the lightguide core and a semiconductor radiator), the diffusion of a front may reach an infinite value. Means of decreasing the diffusion are examined.
