Lunar mineralogy
Abstract
The geochemical and geological history of the lunar rocks is examined and a comparison is conducted of lunar and terrestrial mineralogy. Native elements are discussed, taking into account metallic iron, copper, brass, tin, tentative nickel and Cu-Ni-Zn-Fe metal, and graphite. Sulfides, phosphide, and carbides are considered along with simple oxides and oxides of ferric iron, multiple oxides, carbonates and phosphates, the SiO2 minerals, and the silicates. Attention is given to the feldspars, pyroxenes, pyroxferroite, and olivines.
