Instrument complex for detecting natural VLF radiation
Abstract
The paper describes a high-sensitivity receiving, amplifying, and detecting system for natural VLF radiation. A block diagram of the system is presented, and it is shown that the most important feature is the loop antenna-preamplifier subsystem. Conditions for optimum power matching between the antenna and preamplifier are analyzed along with additional requirements necessitated by the intrinsic noise in the amplifier and antenna. Brief descriptions are given of the antenna, calibration device, transformer, preamplifier, and amplifier. It is noted that the present system can be operated automatically for a relatively long period of time.
