Plasmapause dynamics from observations of whistler atmospherics on September 19, 20, 1968
Abstract
The dynamics of the plasmapause during the period after a magnetic disturbance is investigated on the basis of observations of multicomponent 'elbow' whistlers. It is shown that an increase in the dimensions of the plasmapause was characteristic during that period. The electron density was unchanged within the plasmapause, but increased by almost an order of magnitude outside it. The structure of the plasmapause was observed to become more complex, as manifested in the appearance of a turbulent zone at its boundary.
