Trends in electronic measuring instruments microwave frequency measurement - A new approach
Abstract
New requirements for on-line or field microwave frequency measurements provided stimulus for the design of a new microwave frequency meter. This design incorporates the best attributes of the phase-locked transfer oscillator and a heterodyne measuring system. The instrument is termed FLACTO, Frequency Locked Automatic Computing Transfer Oscillator. The FLACTO is a new measuring system which provides the tolerance to frequency modulation inherent in a frequency-locked oscillator and the high resolution of a heterodyne converter. The FLACTO system provides the compromise between on-line microwave frequency measurement of complex communications channels and high-resolution measurements of microwave synthesizers within an optimum measuring time.
