Compression of a dense toroidal plasma with beta greater than 1 by a gas piston
Abstract
A method is considered for creating a toroidal plasma in a system with nonmagnetic confinement. The process of gas breakdown, formation of the toroidal structure, and heating of the plasma takes place in two stages. Initially, a gas pressure is created in the chamber in the range corresponding to the usual conditions for a gas discharge. The gas breaks down, a closed magnetic structure forms, and initial heating to a temperature of 1 to 2 KeV takes place. Some Calculations are described.
