Transport phenomena in near-wall region of turbulent boundary layer around a rotating cylinder
Abstract
This paper reports an experimental investigation of the transport phenomena in the turbulent boundary layer around a rotating cylinder with a particular emphasis on the near-wall region. The distributions of the velocity and the temperature were initially measured and several characteristics of the flow field influenced by the centrifugal forces were mentioned. To examine the unsteady three-dimensional fluid motions several flow-visualization techniques were applied. From these observations the outward ejection of the high-speed fluid and the simultaneous inward rush of the fluid outside the sublayer were confirmed. The role of these motions is discussed.
