A new omnidirectional antenna for space application
Abstract
Design requirements and details (electrical, mechanical, thermal) are described for the vertically polarized omnidirectional medium-gain antenna designed for the West European HELIOS solar probe. Thermal stress is of particular importance since this deep-space probe will approach the sun to within 0.3 AU. The collinear 8-element array is recommended as adaptable to other space applications, and stacking of arrays to produce a high-gain antenna is possible.
