Computer simulations of electrically controllable microwave phase shifter
Abstract
A microwave phase shifter was previously proposed by the authors. It employed varactor diodes so as to change electrically the phase with quick response. This paper presents computer simulation to achieve an optimum design of the varactor diodes which results in a phase shifter with a single control voltage. A nonlinear relationship is required between these susceptances so as to vary the phase continuously. The nonlinear current-voltage characteristic of the varactor diode is designed to approximate the required nonlinear relationship. The current-voltage characteristic is adjusted by doping the material of the varactor diode so as to optimize the approximation.
