The mean energy transfer to black and grey tracks in stars produced by 10 GeV protons.
Abstract
The results of measurements made on 200 stars produced by collisions between 10 GeV protons and emulsion nuclei are given. The particle energy was determined by range and ionization measurements. The dependence of the mean energy transfer to black and grey tracks on the number of such tracks is parabolic when no distinction is made between the stars formed on the two types of nuclei present in the emulsion (C, N, O) and (Br, Ag) and linear when only the heavy nuclei are taken into account, as required by the evaporation theory.
