Transmission of non-telephony signals over tandem PCM carrier derived VF circuits
Abstract
The results are summarized of a series of measurements carried out to investigate the effect of tandem VF PCM carrier links on the transmission of nontelephony signals such as VF data, MFC, VFT and facsimile. The aim of the investigation was to examine the effects of the transmission impairments produced by the successive encoding/decoding operations performed by the PCM terminal multiplexing/demultiplexing equipment associated with the individual PCM links in a tandem connection. The measurements were performed in the laboratory on commercial primary level PCM multiplex equipment which comprised both 24 channel (1.544 Mbit/s) and 30 channel (2.048 Mbit/s) systems.
