Two step sequential detection for radar
Abstract
The use of a simple 2-step sequential detection scheme to improve the search efficiency of a phased-array radar system is discussed. The scheme incorporates stepped resolution in range and angle and uses different energies in both transmitted signals. This scheme is shown to offer a useful reduction in the expected transmitted energy (relation to single pulse detection) at the expense of a limited decrease of the expected search rate. The reduction depends mainly on the false alarm probability and on the range resolution.
