The calculation of the dipole moments of dielectric bodies with the aid of the method of boundary perturbations
Abstract
An approximate procedure is used for the calculation of the dipole moments. In this procedure the dielectric body is studied by considering a reference body in the form of a sphere or a cylinder in the first term of a series and taking into account deviations of the geometry of the actual body from that of the reference body by means of the following terms. In the representation of the field intensity components and the potential, the first term of the series constitutes, therefore, in each case the solution for the reference body. The following terms of the series must satisfy the Laplace equation and the boundary conditions. The described method is employed in the study of various examples.
