Applications of acousto-optics to laser recording
Abstract
The state of the art of acousto-optic (A/O) devices in laser recording systems is reviewed along with a discussion of their major applications. The basic parameters of A/O device design are examined, indicating the various tradeoffs to be made for final design. Illustrative examples include applications ranging from programs in the advanced development stage to equipments that are operational. The applications discussed concern a high-speed laser image recorder, a high-speed digital recorder for recording digital data on roll film at very high rates, a cavity dumped laser operating in an analog mode or a pulsed mode, a microfilm system capable of recording digital data as well as document or imagery data on microfilm chips, and a laser facsimile scanner and receiver used to transmit photographs for newspaper applications.
