Calibrator for space flight mass spectrometer
Abstract
A device is proposed for in-flight calibration of mass spectrometer aboard a satellite. Upon each ground command, the calibrator introduces a reproducible amount of hydrogen into the ion source of the mass spectrometer. The working concept of the calibrator is based on gas diffusion through a heated metal membrane. This method was previously applied by Fowler and Brock (1970) to a vacuum gauge calibrator and is suitable for space flight applications.
