Determination of the temperature field within a solid in permanent oscillatory regime
Abstract
A calculation method was developed in order to describe the propagation inside a solid body of temperature oscillations due to periodic heat exchanges. The question was raised in connection with reports on phenomena of this nature in turbomachines. Numerical calculations show that with refractory blades protected by a thin coating of metallic oxide the temperature oscillations are so quickly damped that they are likely to have a very reduced effect, if any, on the resistance of the material. The calculation method presented, which was developed for various cases of plane slabs, may have broad applications.
