Determination of the phase front of antennas with the aid of an autodyne
Abstract
The paper gives a brief analysis of a method for determining the phase front of an antenna by using an autodyne circuit whose oscillator incorporates a tunnel diode. This method consists in connecting the oscillator to the antenna and measuring the oscillator frequency before the introduction of a passive reflecting probe. Then one introduces the probe and finds the points where the oscillator frequency is the same as before introducing the probe, and the geometric locus of these points gives the phase front of the antenna. The error involved in such measurements is analyzed.
