Multiple scattering of pulsed waves in discrete random media
Abstract
The integral equation of two-frequency mutual coherence functions including the effects of multiple scattering and the motion of scatterers is derived for waves propagating through discrete random media. Subject to the validity of the parabolic approximation (forward scattering), the integral equation is approximated by a differential equation. The two-frequency small angle approximation of the radiative transfer equation is derived. These formulations and the solutions obtained are used for the analyses of coherence time, coherence bandwidth of waves, and the phenomena of pulsed waves in a time-varying discrete random medium. The effects of size distributions and random motions of scatterers are also presented.
