The design and operation of a high frequency burst signal processor for laser Doppler velocimeter applications
Abstract
Design, development, and application are reported of a digital electronic processor for measuring the frequency of the burst signals produced by laser velocimeters of the differential Doppler type. The processor employs precision time to amplitude converters rather than a digital clock to determine the period of the Doppler signal, resulting in a frequency measurement accuracy of better than one percent over the entire range. Both the original processor and a second prototype have been used in conjunction with a two-wavelength laser Doppler velocimeter for measurements of laminar and turbulent supersonic flows. The data obtained agree well with that taken by other instruments.
