Theoretical studies of the longitudinal development of extensive air showers. I
Abstract
In an attempt to develop a systematic method for investigating the sensitivity of the individual air-shower parameters, model-dependent features of the air shower are discussed. Instead of introducing specific proposed models of the high energy nuclear interaction, an artificial production spectrum is assumed in a most general form. One of the fundamental properties of air showers - the transition curve is studied. As a first step, the average behavior of the nuclear active component is analyzed, and the importance of the inelasticity in nuclear collisions is pointed out.
