Vortex motion near the interface of two heavy liquids
Abstract
The problem of the motion of a vortex near the horizontal interface of two heavy ideal incompressible fluids is analyzed, assuming that the vortex can propagate either in the upper or the lower fluid. A solution is obtained for a general nonlinear formulation of the problem. Approximate expressions are derived which describe the behavior of the interface as a function of a parameter characterizing the intensity of the vortex and its distance from the interface.
