Multi-octave high-power TWT operation
Abstract
Recent developments in electronic countermeasure (ECM) equipment are reviewed. The mechanism of harmonic generation and capture, the theory of harmonic conditioning, harmonic conditioner design, and pertinent laboratory measurements are discussed. Late trends in ECM system applications require higher power, higher bandwidths and, in some instances, multimode (continuous-wave and pulse) performance. This has resulted in extensive component development in output power devices. Some of the most significant advances have occurred in traveling wave tube (TWT) power amplifier technology. Octave bandwidth tubes exist in all ECM bands, and tubes are being developed with double-octave bandwidth objectives.
