Evaluation of local mixing intensity in turbulent flows
Abstract
Computations of the mixing intensity for the turbulent flows of the gases in a reactor are only possible in simple cases. The customary turbulent models which are based on mean-value parameters are not valid any longer for flows with complex characteristics. An approach for an approximate evaluation of local mixing intensity is discussed. The approach is based on the consideration of dissipation processes and makes use of the Reynolds analogy between momentum and mass transfer in turbulent flows. An application of the described approach on rotational-flow reactor conditions makes it possible to obtain an optimized reactor design.
