Reflection of an rarefaction wave from the earth's magnetosphere.
Abstract
In the interaction of solar wind- shock waves with the magnetosphere, rarefaction waves, due to secondary interactions, are formed and decrease the pressure of the flux on the magnetosphere. On the basis of an approximation method for solving differential equations of magnetohydrodynamics, the reflection of magnetohydrodynamic rarefaction waves from the magnetopause and the motion of its boundary, are analyzed. The problem is reduced to the integration of a nonlinear system of equations, the finding of a solution which depends on two arbitrary functions, and the subsequent determination of these functions from the boundary conditions.
