Model of the instantaneous redistribution of turbulent kinetic energy
Abstract
Given an isotropic, homogeneous turbulence field subjected to a sudden compressible longitudinal distortion, the Reynolds stress equation describes the variation of normal Reynolds stresses; the result obtained differs from that given by the spectral analysis of Ribner and Tucker (1952). The two methods agree if an instantaneous redistribution of turbulent kinetic energy among its different spatial components is assumed. A new model of this effect is proposed.
