Nonlinear distortions during the modulation of the emission of He-Ne and CO2 lasers by means of varying gas-discharge current
Abstract
Nonlinear distortions are caused by the unidentical reconstruction of the amplitudes of the same frequency and are a change in the form of the input oscillation due to the occurrence of new frequencies at the output which are not present in the input signal. This paper determines the coefficient of nonlinear distortion associated with the modulation of the emission of He-Ne and CO2 lasers by means of the variation of the discharge current. Two methods - an analytic one and a graphic one - are used to calculate nonlinear distortions in the case when the chosen region of the current characteristics can be approximated by a second-order parabola.
