High-field superconducting magnets
Abstract
The current applications of superconducting magnets in high-energy physics, generators and motors, transportation, magnetic separation, and fusion reactors are discussed. Methods for the analysis of current density, field, volume, and energy of superconducting magnets are outlined. The selection of materials and conductor configurations is considered, together with field analyses and syntheses of solenoidal magnets. Various means of reducing thermal and magnetic stresses are examined.
