Test for the existence of gravitational radiation.
Abstract
Predictions are presented for the gravitational-radiation-induced decrease of the orbital period and eccentricity of the recently discovered radio pulsar in a binary system, in terms of the mass ratio and angle of inclination of the orbit. It is shown how measurements of the rotation of the periastron and the term of order (v/c)-squared in the pulsar period variation would allow these two unknowns to be determined.
